Mack Maine Says Young Money Not Worried About 1st Week Sales Of Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter IV'

Today the long awaited album 'Tha Carter IV' finally hit store shelves. The disc is expected to do big first week numbers. Whether those numbers come anywhere near Weezy's platinum out of the gate success of his 'Tha Carter III' cd is anybody's guess.

One thing is for certain, this album doesn't have the same buzz as 'Tha Carter III.' And some of the early reviews have not been kind to the man that many people considered to be the best rapper alive at one point.

None of that bothers Young Money President Mack Maine.

In an interview with XXL, Maine said that YMCB isn't worried about first week sales. Instead they are focused on working the album over the long haul.

People have gotten away from working a record," Mack says. "[Record execs say] 'you better do good your first week. If your first week numbers are not good, we gonna move onto another artist.' With Nicki, we’re on our seventh or eighth video on Pink Friday... we working!

The label plans on using the same approach with Wayne's new album.

[Wayne] actually told us if he don’t do those same numbers again as C3 don’t be mad,” Mack admitted. “I told Nicki—she was kinda nervous about her first-week sales—I said, ‘First week sales don’t matter.’ I’d rather my final sales matter. I know albums from Juvenile 400 Degreez to Beiber’s first album sold 20, or 30,000 the first-week and went onto sell 2 million one album then 6 million on another album. I saw Gaga did the 99 cent thing [and] then [her] second-week it did like 175,000. Congratulation as it relates to her. With Wayne, I don’t want him to sell a million the first-week, [and] then drop to 100,000 the next week then 50,00 the following week. I’d rather sell ten times platinum total."

Drake Speaks On “Take Care” & Working With Stevie Wonder

Drake:
I had a song that’s very powerful, it’s called “Doing It Wrong,” and Stevie boosted it to another level. 40 produced it, but Stevie has a solo on it that he plays. It’s a great piece of music.

I was only trying to use extremely strong R&B songs on this album if I’m going to use R&B at all. Before I’d have scattered interludes and songs where I’m experimenting with things. Here I wanted to get back to “Brand New,” “Bria’s Interlude” days. It’s going to be really tight writing and s— that’s sexy as f—. That’s my thing. I’m going to do the type of R&B I’m good at. With Stevie it’s hard for me to explain. It’s an incredible thing I witnessed that night. He heard a song that he saw some potential in and he added some key pieces that made it come to life. I’ve never played a song for people and they’ve cried and gone into their own private zone in their mind where they’re really thinking about some situations that hit home. And this song has done that for me. I’ve never seen that before. I’ve heard stories where it’s like “So and so cried when they heard this.” And I’d be like, “Yeah, okay, cool.” [Laughs] But I’ve seen people tear up listening to this song that me and Stevie did. Other than that, I just played him music for approval. That’s always reassuring, to be able to play Stevie Wonder music and have him say that it’s incredible. I think me and Stevie immediately formed a relationship where he wants to see me do well. He’s expressed to me adamantly that he wants to see me succeed. He wants to see me on the moon. It’s boosted my confidence.

Birdman Says “Tha Carter IV” Will Ship 2 Million Copies In The First

Cash Money delivered Carter IV to Universal about 10 days in advance, which Williams says was necessary to press the two million units being shipped in its first week. “The goal is to sell a million-plus copies,” he explains. Although that’s likely what led to Carter IV breaking free, Williams says he’s actually OK with leaks, to a point. “I can deal with it for short period of time,” he says. It’s when you have a leak out for a long time that it’s crazy.”

Lil Wayne - How To Love (Shazam Version)

V Exclusive: Lil Wayne Elaborates On His Jay-Z Diss
VIBE.COM By: Vibe Posted 8-25-2011 9:09 am
Just a day after the leak of superstar Lil Wayne’s blog-igniting track “It’s Good,” a two-fisted cut that’s making noise for its perceived brazen diss at hip-hop legend Jay-Z and his omnipresent wife pop-R&B queen Beyonce, the skateboarding Gremlin doesn’t seem at all fazed. During an interview for an upcoming Oct./Nov. VIBE story, Wayne says he’s not worried about any fallout from the presumed lyrical barb at the Watch The Throne MC which features Drake and Jadakiss as Weezy snaps, “I got your baby money/Kidnap your bitch, get that how much you love your lady money.” (The sneering line comes off as a rebuttal to Hova’s Birdman-aimed “H.A.M.” slap “Really you got baby money…You ain't got my lady’s money.”)
“I know there won’t be any repercussions behind what I did,” says a confident Wayne when asked if he had second thoughts about recording his acidic verse for ‘It's Good.’ “I know for a fact music is about perception. You can’t do anything but perceive what you hear. I know that for a fact. So I can’t ever be upset about someone’s reaction.”
Wayne added that while he understands the intrigue and buzz behind the record, it’s just another song. “I’m not going to say I don’t know what would happen before I even say [something on record],” he explains. “I do know what will happen. I’m aware of it. But it is what it is.”
Lil Wayne is currently headlining his I Am Still Music Tour. He is set to digitally drop his highly anticipated release Tha Carter IV on Sunday, August 28th. —Keith Murphy

Lil Wayne Speaks On Retiring By Age 31

Thirty-one? I don’t believe that, man. Mack and them are not gonna let you hang it up. I see Baby still doing it.

Well, I’m not Baby. [Laughs] Honestly, this is the real truth. I honestly think it’s unfair to my kids. I’m super dedicated into what I do. Like, it’s no questions—it’s hands down, I do this. I live this. I don’t have a day out my week that I do something else. I do this every day of my life, and I’m not about to stop, ’cause that’s the only way you can succeed in this business, is to do it the way I do it. I want to succeed the way I want to succeed. You can succeed. You can put out a hit… But to do it the way I want to do it, to be comfortable to do what the fuck I want to do, you’ve got to work like no other. Like I said, it’s unfair to my kids. So about 30, 31, 32, I gotta get ready. I got three boys and one daughter. She’s gonna be a teenager, and they gonna be growing. They gonna be five or six. It’s time to get them. Let them niggas know what being a man is about, what being a little boy is about. I’m not trying to have no nanny do that or no uncle or no shit like that. No stepdad or no shit like that. I was raised like, Don’t let no other man take care of yours. Even if you gotta take the sacrifice of quitting what you love the most. Like I said, I’m finished at about 31, 32. That’s it, shawty.

Parenting Group Angry That ABC Allowed Nicki Minaj's Nip Slip To Air Calls For Changes

conservative parenting group is angry that ABC allowed Nicki Minaj's nip slip to air to millions of viewers and they want something done about it.

Minaj was performing on Good Morning America Friday when she suffered a wardrobe malfunction, causing her left breast to be exposed to millions of viewers who were watching the show live on the East Coast

The accident has the Parents Television Council up in arms according to the New York Daily News.

"For the umpteenth time in recent memory a morning news show has included inappropriate content for children and families," said PTC president Tim Winter.

ABC issued an apology on Friday for the mishap.

"Although we had a five-second delay in place for the Nicki Minaj concert on GMA, the live East Coast feed of the concert regrettably included certain fleeting images of the performer that were taken out of later feeds of the broadcast in other time zones."

That apology didn't go far enough for Winter. He said ABC needs to implement an effective plan and stop making excuses.

"Instead of asking for forgiveness, they need to stop apologizing and implement the five second delay that so many Americans have been calling for," he said.

Lil Wayne, Young Money, Cash Money Sued For $15 Million Over "BedRock"

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Lil' Wayne has been hit with a $15,000,000 lawsuit over the hit single “BedRock.”

Done Deal Enterprises, based in Waynesboro, Georgia, filed a lawsuit against Lil Wayne, Young Money Records, and Cash Money Records, in the United States District Court, Southern district of New York, over the song.

The lawsuit, which was filed on August 1st, claims that the rapper stole their copyrighted tune “BedRock,” and incorporated it into the track of the same name, that was eventually featured on the compilation album We Are Young Money.

We Are Young Money peaked at #1 on the Billboard Rap charts upon its release in December of 2009.

The Young Money version of the tune featured guest appearances by Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lloyd, Tyga, Gudda Gudda, Jae Millz and was originally produced by Kane Beatz.

According to the lawsuit, the single has moved an estimated 3,000,000 copies, while the album has been certified Gold (500,000 sold) by the RIAA.

The rapper and his counsel have been directed to appear in court on October 12th, 2011.

Birdman Drops $2 Million Dollar Bet On Miami Heat To Win NBA Finals

Birdman is looking to add another expensive car to his collection and more money to his bank account. He just revealed via twitter that he has put down a $2 million dollar wager on the Miami Heat to win the NBA Championship.

The Heat, led by superstars Dwayne Wade, Lebron James and Chris Bosh are already up 1-0 in the best of seven series against the Dallas Mavericks.

Birdman is quite comfortable placing big bets on sports events and seems to be on a nice winning streak.

In May of last year he put $4 million on Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his fight against Sugar Shane Mosley. Then, this past February he placed a $1 million dollar bet on the Green Bay Packers when they played the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. Both times he won.

If he wins this latest bet, he said he'll be buying a new car to go along with his recently purchased $8.7 million dollar Maybach and $2.5 million dollar Bugatti Veyron.

Birdman Covers XXL (June 2011)

Who would have thought after 22-years in the music industry, Cash Money co-founder Baby a.k.a. Birdman, would be on top of the game? Responsible for three of the rap world’s biggest artists—Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj—Birdman is one of the hip-hop’s last true moguls. For XXL‘s forthcoming June 2011 issue, the magazine spoke with the New Orleans native about his exclusive position in the rap industry as one of the last moguls standing and the secret to his longevity.

In a sit-down with editor-in-chief, Vanessa Satten, Baby reflected on the harsh nature of his profession. “When I look around, through my years and my time, you know, the game, it was a lot in the field, a lot of people doing it,” he says. “And I look around, and it’s like, where the f*** did everybody go? I ain’t never understood that, but the game like that sometimes, that muthafucka’s gon’ keep ya or it’s gon’ leave ya. It’s all on you.”

Despite his current status as one of the only remaining powerhouses, there was a time when many considered Cash Money over. Following the departure of his first successful act—super group the Hot Boys with Wayne, Juvenile, B.G. and Turk—and before Weezy rose to the prominent position that he holds today at the top of the rap food chain—Cash
Money seemed to be losing its touch. But as Birdman tells XXL, the hip-hop heavyweight learned a lot of important life lessons and studies the greats in order to figure out the best way to sustain his position in the game.

Arguably the best decision Baby made, was empowering Lil Wayne with his own label, Young Money, in 2005, which Weezy used to sign stars like Drake and Nicki Minaj over the past couple of years. “Honestly, I gave him the floor,” Baby says of Weezy. “He wanted it. I been with him since he was seven years old, eight years old. I been in his life all of his life, and he was like, “Let me handle, it.” At the time, me as an artist, losing my sister and everything I was going through personally, I was just like, ‘Go ahead, I’ma just support what you gon’ do. You can handle it.’ And I took a step back. Probably was the smarted move I ever made in my life was to let him go ‘head.”

In addition to the cover story on Birdman, XXL’s June 2011 issue also features an in-depth look at buzz-worthy, Los Angeles skate rap collective Odd Future as they brace for the limelight. Other articles include a candid interview with Ja Rule as he gets ready to begin a two-year prison sentence for gun possession, and an exclusive conversation with incarcerated Harlem rapper and ex-Bady Boy G.Dep, who is currently awaiting trial after he surprisingly admitted to shooting and killing a man 17-years ago. The mag also catches up with Tech N9ne and Max B, Swizz Beatz schools heads on Basquiat and the producer’s new Reebok gig, Outasight and Theophilus London are featured in XXL‘s fashion and there’s much more.

XXL’s June 2011 issue will be hitting newsstands nationwide on June 7, 2011.

Soulja Boy Says Baby Trying To Sign Him To Cash Money

Birdman is looking to add another potential superstar to his roster by attempting to sign Soulja Boy.

Soulja told Rap-Up the two have already met face to face to face to discuss the possible move.

“I met with Baby and Slim down in Miami,” Soulja said. “He’s trying to get me to come over to Cash Money.”

It would be an interesting move for Soulja, who already has his own label, Stacks on Deck Entertainment. The allure of working with someone he has been a fan is compelling to Soulja though.

“I’ve been a fan of Cash Money since I was young. I’ve been listening to Birdman’s music since I was growing up. I would have never thought” Soulja added.

There is the issue of Soulja's contract with Interscope that would obviously have to be dealt with. The rapper owes them 2 more albums.

“I still got paperwork with Interscope Records, so I’m just trying to figure out what I’ma do. I got a lot of great options on the table,” he said.

Lil Wayne Owes $5.6 Million In Unpaid Federal Taxes

Platinum-selling hip-hop star Lil Wayne is in town tonight, live at the Palace. Don't be surprised if the IRS is waiting backstage to collect on a brand new $5.6 million tax bill.

The IRS filed the enormous tax lien against him Monday in Miami.

Seems Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Carter, can't shake the tax man. In December, he paid off a $1.13 million federal tax lien, only to fall even deeper in debt this time.

What's owed:

The IRS filed a $5,610,034 tax lien against Carter on March 28 with the Miami-Dade County Clerk. According to the lien he owes income taxes from 2008-09.

The address on the tax bill is his $12.9 million, 15,101-square-foot mansion on a private Miami Beach island.

Street Drummer Files Lawsuit Against MTV Over His Unauthorized Appearance In Nicki Minaj Documentary

Billboard reports: A camera-shy subway busker is suing MTV and its parent company Viacom in New Jersey Federal Court, claiming his privacy was violated and his reputation was tarnished when his image appeared on the documentary show "Nicki Minaj: My Time Now."

Street drummer Mike Alaska, whose real name is Michael Savely, appeared fleetingly during the opening of a show about the music and life of the Grammy-nominated rapper.

He claims that he was filmed by the show's producers in November 2010 and approached to sign a waiver. He refused, he says, because he was concerned that "the footage would misrepresent his connection with other artists whose style conflict with the one that he has developed."

Despite his refusal to grant permission to the music network, he says, his image appeared on the show in December 2010.

Savely, 26, who often sports a foot-high mohawk, says his business teaching drumming to children was damaged by his appearance on the show.

He also complained that the footage was blurry.

"Savely understands that the reason many of the parents of the students he teaches employ his services is because they can trust him to provide their children with something more modern yet not corrupt," according to the suit.

Minaj, 26, on the other hand, "dresses provocatively, uses profanity and glorifies a specific lifestyle," all of which is contrary to Savely's more "conservative" image, he says in court papers.

His image began to appear on the show in December 2010, after which his tutoring business and T-shirt sales went downhill, Savely says.

Despite the fact that Savely was drumming on a public subway platform, he claims MTV violated his privacy. When reached for comment, Savely requested money for his interview. Viacom declined to comment.
